For over two (2) decades the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History has produced the African World Festival, one of the most exciting ethnic events the City of Detroit has ever experienced. As part of the Museums annual Public Program schedule, the African World Festival celebrates the rich culture and diversity of the African Diaspora. This year the Museum is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of African World Festival, a full weekend of entertainment for all ages.

Throughout the weekend, musicians from all over the world perform African and African-influenced music. Local and national acts entertain crowds with a variety of musical genres including Blues, Gospel, Jazz, and Soul to name a few. Dancers adorned in traditional clothing present electrifying demonstrations, alongside drummers, and stilt-walkers. Plus, don’t miss the Annual Greek Step-Show featuring the intricate, yet precise drill movements by members of the eight (8) traditional Black fraternities and sororities.

Satisfy your appetite at the Taste of the Diaspora, with authentic African cuisine, organic foods, and all of your summertime favorites.

Visit the Vendor Market Place, for shopping with over 150 merchants selling goods from all continents of the world.

The African Family Village features activities for children and young adults including arts and crafts, games, musical performances, and physical fitness exercises that are guaranteed to challenge and stimulate all ages.
