Educational Programs & Activities
Lectures, panel discussions, performances, film screenings, and other
educational programs complement each exhibition. On occasion gallery tours and
workshops may be arranged for classes and other groups. Moreover, to facilitate an
understanding and appreciation by young visitors to the Museum, there are periods
designated for exhibition related storytelling, visual arts instruction, and other

Facility Rentals
The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History is pleased to make available our unique and
architecturally stunning facility as a venue for events. Spaces available for rent include
a 317-seat theater, rotunda area, a multipurpose room, and classrooms. For more information on facility rental call

African World Festival
The African World Festival is our largest public outreach program of the year. With
attendance topping one million, this festival is a dynamic, colorful mix of people and
cultures of the African Diaspora. Held the third weekend in August at downtown Detroit's
Hart Plaza, it is one of the largest events in the State of Michigan. For

Museum Store
Our Museum Store will feature specialties in African and African American books, games,
toys, jewelry, art, clothing and much more directly from the continent of Africa.

Ticket Information and Group Tours
Current members of the Museum of African American History (MAAH) will receive the first
opportunity to reserve timed tickets to view the core exhibition. For additional
information on how to reserve timed tickets and arrange for Group Tours, phone (313) 494-5808.
The Museum Relies On Volunteers
The Museum of African American History's vision includes volunteers to assist as
information center representatives, Museum teachers, membership recruiters, administrative
support, Museum Store assistants, collections assistants, etc. To make this a reality, we
